by: Brian North I flipped my computer open this morning and quickly realized what I wanted to write. I want to remind you all that the name of the greatest country in the world is the UNITED States of America. You are free. Relative to the governed all over the world, you are free. You are free to speak, free to worship, free to dance, free to protect, you are free. In many countries, we’d go to jail or even get killed for speaking publicly against the government, practicing any religion other than that of the government, and even get jailed for listening to music. I regularly consider that this freedom comes with significant responsibility. Today we will celebrate the freedom that many have died to create and protect. Our grandfathers and grandmothers fought, and our fathers and mothers, sons and daughters are still fighting. Many North&Co. families are honorably discharged veterans or have active duty family members. Please remember this and remain conscious of the sacrifice. When you speak to others, post on social media, and dress in your red, white, and blue outfit today, what will you stand for? What will you represent today? How will you represent yourself, your family, and your country? Consider your opportunity to be UNITED. Today is a day to be proud, to come together, to quiet the conversations that divide, and loudly create new ones that UNITE. Is there anybody who doesn’t want healthcare for all, a military to protect, a good economy, good infrastructure, a fair and equitable tax structure, human equality, etc.? Then let the nuances rest for a minute, focus on one another, and UNITE. Let’s celebrate, have a blast, eat, drink, get loud, light up the sky with rockets red glare, and practice UNITY. Make a commitment to look someone in the eye who might not share the same nuanced point of view as you, and remember they are your brother or sister and they are American. Be UNITED today. High five, hug, handshake, fist bump, chest bump, whatever your style, and celebrate the greatest country in the world today. Happy 4th of July.
